If a web site is affordable, you should know what the prices are up front instead of getting to a "Request a Quote" page. To be sure, all projects have different scopes and lengths, but if you're not getting straight talk about rates up front, this is often a good sign that the rates will be high.

A Web Site For Only $400?

ParticleWave charges $40 per hour for web site design and development, with an initial ten-hour ($400) minimum. The ten-hour minimum is typically enough to cover the following services:

Help you register or move your domain name.
Work with you to select a beautiful free theme for you site and customize it to your specifications.
Install a blog as part of your site. We use WordPress, the leading, free, open source blogging platform.
Train you in the basics of the WordPress user interface.
Help you install (and then train you to use) Windows Live Writer, a great free tool from Microsoft that makes blogging a snap! This is the same tool we use on all our blogs as well.
Begin training you to use tools besides content generation such as free directories and link exchanges to help promote your site.

Two Case Studies

One of the clients I worked with who's been very kind in referring much more business my way was attracted to my service because of the huge price difference between ParticleWave and one of our competitors. This competitor charges $3,000 for a service comparable to what we've outlined above. That works out to $300.00 per hour, or about 7.5 times what we charge!

Needless to say, my client was very happy that he was able to get his blog installed and get personalized blog training for only $400 instead of $3,000. To be sure, the $3,000 vendor does include more web site theme customization than I do, but another client of mine had me do a custom theme and was very happy with it, and even though that ate up most of the initial ten hours, I've still been able to work with her on many SEO initiatives since then and we're still not even halfway to the $3,000 figure.

Web Site Hosting

We charge $10.00 per month for Web Site hosting. You may select your own host if you wish (subject to minimum system requirements), but many hosts are not that much cheaper, and we can generally get the initial work and any ongoing maintenance you need done most quickly on our own host since we know our way around it. What About Site Promotion and SEO?

One of the main reasons we try to keep our rates low for you is that we realize that some users will want more help on an ongoing basis, so we try to make it affordable. That said, the goal of the Live Writer training we give you is to make you as comfortable as possible putting up your own content. We share our SEO knowledge with you to enable you to move forward on your own -- but naturally we're happy to do the work for you instead if you prefer to outsource it.

The truth is, the Internet is a competitive place, so to win you need a long term strategy where you invest either time (writing engaging content for your site and building links from appropriate web sites) or money (investing in Pay-Per-Click advertising or having someone else build content and links).

Our goal is to enable you to succeed, by pricing ourselves affordably if you want to outsource the work to us, but sharing what we know so you can do the work yourself if you wish.
